Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting a fashion show for CUSP, a women’s boutique under the umbrella of the Neiman Marcus name. If you don’t know CUSP or have never visited one of their stores, they offer chic women’s apparel, featuring labels such as DVF, Rebecca Taylor, J Brand, Theory, Haute Hippie, Helmut Lang, Alice & Olivia, Equipment, and the like. They are one of my favorite places to shop!
I’m a dating coach primarily, but I also offer style/image makeovers and consultations (hence the reason for this style blog). I had an incredible experience co-hosting (with fashionista Courtney Kerr) a Macy’s/Match.com joint fashion show in the summer of 2014, during which I talked about how personal style and fashion play into one’s dating life. I also had the opportunity to offer dating advice/tips to the audience and answer any burning dating questions. A couple months after that experience, I reached out to local department stores, proposing a similar type of idea. An amazing woman on the Neiman Marcus PR team responded, I met with the team and suggested various ideas, and the rest was history, so to speak.
I pulled in Meg Sharma, a fab Boston fashion blogger at Snazzy Bellanista, to help me co-host the show, and she talked about the style/trend side of things as the models came down the runway, and I focused on the dating side of things. We spent a few hours the Saturday before the show creating 14 date-inspired looks, and then I found a way to spin each look into a dating-related tip or lesson.
The models were fierce, the catering was delicious, the DJ was fantastic, and both Meg and I raffled off a few prizes. The audience was packed! It was a lot of work to put on a fashion show, and I have a new found respect for people who do this for a living. Phew!
